Durrr Can Slow Anyone down?

2 July 2009

Tom Durrr Dwan never ceases to amaze me. His presence at the poker table just makes tightcasino players nervous and loose players tight. If you raise, you are always suspecting a reraise from Dwan. He has the ultimate game, because he can win in so many different ways. He can win by being aggressive without online poker cards. Every time he bets he has the chance of winning. He can win by having a huge hand and getting called by suspicious opponents who think he’s always bluffing. Finally, he also gets to see more cards than the average poker player because players tend to check to him more often in fear of his raises. This fear that he creates is something I want to look at. Dwan is obviously a big pot player. He wins big pots and loses big ones. He takes big chances. What this does, is immunize his opponents who are unwilling to play big pots. Playing against Dwan you start to question big hands. I’ve heard so many times on Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker from Esfandiari and Laak talk about hanging on for dear life with a air against Dwan and hopefully making it through a 4-barrel bluff. They just don’t know what to do, or where they’re at. Dwan is usually so aggressive, that when he isn’t aggressive, he still dictates the pace. He sees more free cards because people check to him more often, knowing he is capable of making any pot larger than desired. One hand, Esfandiari has pocket Aces and Dwan had 9, 10.
