Human Hair Wigs for a Woman in Distress
7 July 2009We never imagined the incredible Colleen Smart, my life-long soul mate, would cover her head with medical wigs. Her signature hair and fashion was synonymous with impeccable style. Get this. There’s no doubt “Lady Fabulous” continues to be known for her style. Only a handful of souls think to notice that she wears synthetic lace wigs. They work well.
When we were youths finding our way in the hill country, we always had our picks of boys. But in college her medical hair loss took effect and her hair thinned spottily. I did hint at these synthetic wigs. Oh well, it didn’t matter much. Even on bad days she somewhat obnoxiously showcased her threadbare confidence.
At the school’s baseball championship, we heckled until a guy on other team accidentally flung the orb (or whatever they play with) into the stands. She dove for the ball and her bandana fell off, uncovering her hair (or lack thereof). Like nothing happened, she lobbed it playfully back to the field. What’d I tell ya about her spunk?
But, there’s two sides to every coin. Once she invited me over for a “Gilmore Girls” binge, the day she looked me in the eye and confided that she would rather do without hair out of bitterness. She missed her natural hair too much to spend money on medical wigs, even if she would wear them. And who would have thought she grew embarrassed and demanded that I shouldn’t concern myself with it. I had to oblige.
There was no way to get her words out of my head. Shortly after, I asked her about taking care of this wig problem. Eventually the two of us came to the perfect solution: we’ll think of wigs as fashion, and we love fashion. Wigs for the both of us, on me!
We had a ball wig shopping, bewildered by how natural they looked. She couldn’t believe that synthetic wigs were very appealing for people, even superstars. These lace front wigs made her so lovely. As for me, pieced together a comprehensively new wardrobe to go with our wigs. Its become an inside joke, if you haven’t heard. For my birthday she thanked me for her human hand-crafted human hair wig, and said it brought about a feminine mystique for many occasions. It’s encouraging to have helped her live a happier existence. She’s a better person, with the same confidence.
