Virgin Media Launches 7.2Mb Dongle
29 December 2009Virgin Media has launched its latest mobile broadband offering – the 7.2Mb dongle. With this product, Virgin has come neck-to-neck with competitor Vodafone that already brought 7.2Mb speeds for its customers a while back.

The dongle is currently available to users with two options – a 1-month renewable contract with 1 GB limit, and an 18-month contract with 3 GB limit. With this product, Virgin has once more established itself among the leaders in the
Virgin’s advertisement for the product says that users can watch streaming videos or play iPlayer music by using this connection. However whether these actually become a reality remains to be seen as user experiences begin to make the rounds. The advertised speeds are rarely experienced by users in actuality, as many external factors control the speed of the connection.
The 7.2 Mb speed merely means that Virgin’s network can carry this kind of speed, but it does not guarantee that every time the user logs on he/she will get access to internet at such high speeds.
Graeme Oxby, executive director of mobile at Virgin Media, said that mobile broadband continues to gain favour among the public as an easy and convenient means of communication, and that Virgin hopes to enhance user experience with its new product.
